…a few words from mixed media artist Annie Coe…
I thought I would write a little something about myself and my process for those of you that may be interested.
I live in Taos New Mexico surrounded by mountains and desert.Silence is my favorite sound.
My painting is mostly informed by dreams and what I see and find on my daily hikes, I love decaying, rusted treasures and the blue of the sea and sky, seed pods, stones and beetles also provide inspiration. Lately I am drawn to the color red.
I usually start with just a glimmer of an idea of what I want, and then that glimmer changes as I paint, I let the work lead and guide me.
I first apply Venetian plaster on board or canvas and sand it down, then I add elements like graphite, oil paint, pen, paper ( I like old letters and ledger papers and Rice paper) or rusted teabags and sometimes thread.Layering, sanding down and layering some more.
My paintings can take from a week to months to complete and some have up to 15 layers or more.
I am spiritually inclined, open and curious and my goal in my painting is to somehow translate the spiritual mystery of life into art.
It is a never ending journey.

I was startled by my reaction to these. They effect me on a gut level. I haven’t had a reaction like that to art in some time. Moving. I am not sure why.
