“Greg Spalenka’s distinctive, dreamlike images haunt the mind, invoking new and old myths, populated with fire beings, desert spirits, and winged, ethereal creatures. His vast landscapes of extraordinary worlds lend themselves to exploration and contemplation, with vivid touches and tangible details that bring alien expanses, charmed forests, and mysterious labyrinths alike to life.” – Tor Books
After graduating from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California in 1982 I moved to New York City and began illustrating for America’s most prominent publishers of books, magazines, and newspapers. Two decades later I worked as a concept designer on feature CG animated and live-action films such as The Ant Bully, The Golden Compass, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Escape From Planet Earth.
I consider myself a cross-disciplinary artist and love to work in different mediums, from high touch to high tech, paint to pixels, photography to music, from books to jewelry. It is a grand fusion of possibility.
For three decades I have been teaching, lecturing and conducting workshops at colleges, universities, art institutions around the country and abroad to share my professional experience and encourage the creation of art businesses. I founded the educational service, Artist As Brand to inspire and nurture art career sustainability.
Living in the Santa Monica Mountains (Woodland Hills, CA) with artist/botanical perfumer Roxana Villa of Roxana Illuminated Perfume keeps me in tune with my essential nature and is always a creative adventure.
Wonderful, emotion-stirring work!
