In Jessica Watts‘ mixed media paintings girls enjoy the heat, kids are amateur naturalists, and backyard birds become unlikely portraits of ourselves. Finding wit within longing, her work examines the joys of an Australian summer. After leaving a successful career as an advertising art director in New York, Jessica returned to Sydney to pursue a long-held desire to paint. Her background in typography and graphics is never far away. Using oil and collage including collected playing cards, vintage games and storybooks she creates textured narratives with distinctly Australian themes. Jessica is a founding member of the artists’ cooperative Artspot Inc. She exhibits regularly in Sydney, Australia. Her work has been placed in numerous private collections across the world including Munich, New York, Auckland, London, Montreal, Sao Paolo, Sydney, and Melbourne.

A wonderful person and ingenious artist. The reaction on Mum and Dad’s faces when they unwrapped Jessica’s paintings was priceless.
