Tim Doyle is an illustrator and printmaker working out of Austin, Texas. Growing up in the suburban sprawl of the Dallas area, he turned inward and sullen, only finding joy in comic books and television and video games.
Moving to Austin, Texas in 1999 to fulfill a life-long dream of not living in Dallas, Doyle began painting and showing in galleries in 2001. He self-published a diary zine, ‘Amazing Adult Fantasy’ from 2001-2003. Doyle has held many nerd-friendly jobs, including running a small chain of comic-book stores, as well as being the art director/ lead designer for MONDO from 2004-2009.
Doyle left ‘jobs’ behind and launched his own company- Nakatomi Inc in January of 2009. In the Summer of 2009, Tim Doyle along with artist Clint Wilson built their own screen printing studio,Nakatomi Print Labs, in which they and other artists work out of, as well as do commercial printing for outside clients.
Since then, he has produced art for companies such as Creature Design, The Astor Theatre, ABC’s Lost Poster project, Mattel’s He-Man art show in LA, has had artwork used by Lucasfilm/ILM, Hasbro, IDW, and just signed on to do comic book covers for DC and Dark Horse. Doyle has had 3 sold-out solo art shows at the SpokeArt Gallery in San Francisco, which featured his UnReal Estate Series of prints and is scheduled for a fourth solo exhibition of his on-going “UnReal Estate” series from July 2nd to July 25th titled: UNREAL ESTATE IV: THE MOVIE
For this year’s installment, Doyle has tackled all new locations from cinema’s most popular cult classics, re-imagining their locales in his signature style.
“UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” is a complete transformation from previous years, shifting the artist’s focus towards the big screen. Paying homage to some of cinema’s iconic locations, Doyle is able to reconstruct these landscapes in his personal surreal style. One could say that the environments of these movies are just as important as the characters that inhabit them. Doyle has not limited himself to one genre but rather explored a multitude of different films, covering everything from Miyazaki’s inspired “Spirited Away” to Tarantino’s edgy “Pulp Fiction”.
Limited edition prints will be available first to attendees of the July 2nd opening reception, with remaining copies available online the following week. As a special treat to all attendees, there will be an exclusive limited edition giveaway print, only available to the first 50 people at the opening. The artist will be in attendance and complimentary beverages will be served.
