Elusive Muse shares the work of illustrator Heidi Burton.

I feel that, as an introvert, these small journals are my approach to inviting outsiders into my imagination.  With folk tales as an inspiration and theme running throughout my work, the format of these journals, when altered, allows a narrative to be told.

Part of the attraction with cutting into the journal covers is that part of the image is revealed, but there is the secret element of what is hidden and only revealed upon opening the book. This could be subversive, a surprise, or a continuation of the image on the cover.

I also write tiny poems, or Haiku for my altered journals. I feel it expands the mind to spend hours conjuring the exact word you are looking for, as in a short poem every word counts.
